Design Patterns are typically encoded into Java code in an ad-hoc fashion. They are either embedded into the names of the classes or written into the Javadocs. Unfortunately it is impossible to accurately determine a pattern based solely on the class structure without knowing the intent of the code author. JPatterns is a collection of annotations that make it easy to communicate the use of (Design)Patterns within your code to your fellow developers and your future self.

SODA for Java is a library for writing Java apps that work with JSON (and not only JSON!) in the Oracle Database. SODA allows your Java app to use the Oracle Database as a NoSQL document store. You can use SODA to perform create, read, update, and delete (CRUD) operations on JSON documents, as well as arbitrary binary documents (images, PDFs, mp3s, etc). For all types of documents, CRUD operations are driven by keys (each document in SODA has a unique key). For JSON documents, in addition to keys, operations can be driven by easy to use pattern-like queries knowns as QBEs (queries-by-example).

Rule Learner is an open source Java library for learning business rules from historical data. It supports supervised Machine Learning by incorporating well-known algorithms such as RIPPER and C4.5 provided by open source tools such as Weka. Rule Learner is implemented as a Machine Learning component of OpenRules Decision Manager. It allows business analysts to place their historical data in simple Excel tables and to automatically discover business rules that find certain pattern in this data. The generated rules are human readable and presented in Excel format executable by OpenRules Decision Manager.

Information extraction is the process of identifying specified classes of entities, relations, and events in natural language text – creating structured data from unstructured input. JET, the Java Extraction Toolkit, developed at New York University over the past fifteen years, provides a rich set of tools for research and education in information extraction from English text. These include standard language processing tools such as a tokenizer, sentence segmenter, part-of-speech tagger, name tagger, regular-expression pattern matcher, and dependency parser. Also provided are relation and event extractors based on the specifications of the U.S. Government's ACE [Automatic Content Extraction] program. The program is provided under an Apache 2.0 license.

A timer using the crontab syntax and additional binary input to provide a resolution of one second (1000 ms / 1000 millis / 1s). The timer uses the whiteboard pattern to notify the clients. There are only a few dependencies to commons-codec, osgi and osgi-blueprint. The bundle 'org.i3xx.step/org.i3xx.step.clockmongo' provides a store for the clock configuration based on mongodb. The additional dependency is 'org.mongodb/mongo-java-driver'. The bundle 'org.i3xx.util/org.i3xx.util.whiteboard' can be used to avoid a dependency to bundles used. In other words, your bundle can use the clock but need no dependency to the bundle 'org.i3xx.step.clock'. Take a look at the description there.
