RELISON is a framework for experimentation on the link recommendation task in social networks, which aims to identify those people in the network with whom a user might be interested to connect, interact or befriend. RELISON provides tools for executing and evaluating contact recommendation approaches, considering not only their accuracy, but also aspects like their novelty, diversity and the effects that such recommendations have on global properties of the networks (as changes in the structural properties or in the characteristics of the information arriving to the users). In order to measure these effects, RELISON also provides functionality for a) analyzing the structural properties of social networks, b) detecting clusters of users (communities) and c) simulating the diffusion of information in a social network. These functionalities can be used regardless of whether recommendations have been provided to the users.

Stepping is a framework designed to ease the implementation of data processing solutions. In use cases where we need to implement data or data-streaming algorithms or any other processing on data, we need to first handle many different infrastructure issues. For example, we need to decide how to split the data processing logic into different steps, think about our threading policy, how to handle communication between the different steps, error handling etc. One of the most important subjects is the Threading Policy of our solution. For example, we need to think how many threads to open, have the option to distribute the processing of data to multiple 'executors' in parallel, have a thread-safe communication layer between the threads etc. On top of that we also care a lot about the performance of our solution, we want to make sure that the latency added by these infrastructures is minimal as possible. Stepping aims to handle many of these aspects so developers can spend their time on the business logic instead of solving these infrastructure and data flow issues issues over and over again.

This project aims to offer an easy-to-extend Java DAS server framework. It offers several advantages: * Implementing data sources is very easy but also flexible and powerful. * Data caching is built into the system, with access to the caching mechanism made available to the data sources. * All aspects of the server are highly configurable, including selecting options where the DAS 1.53 specification offers choices to the implementor. * The latest Java technologies have been used throughout the system to optimise performance and simplify data source development. * Wherever possible the same terminology is used in the API as in the DAS specification and XML - again, making data source development more easy. * The server allows XSLT transforms of the DAS XML to be configured to provide a simple DAS client view (limited to the single DAS source).
